A Mexican Cozumel The island is a special place: it both preserves the imprint of ancient Mayan culture and opens the door to modern soul healing. The Travel4Wellbeing During his latest discovery, we entered a sacred space where the power of nature and the past led hand in hand – all the way to our innermost being.
We spent a day wandering among the ruins hidden deep in the dense jungle with Ruben, who is not only an experienced marine biologist and diving instructor, but is now my friend and partner in the Travel4Wellbeing Mexican Healing Retreat in his dream.
We walked these ruins together – with open hearts, quiet presence, bowing to time and ancient knowledge.
The island of fertility
The ruins of San Gervasio in Cozumel were once a sacred pilgrimage site for Mayan women. They worshipped the goddess Ixchel—the goddess of love, childbirth, the moon, and fertility. For generations, women have come here to seek blessings for their future children, a fertile life, or for their own healing.
And this energy… still lives today. Walking among the ruins, we saw not just stone walls – but memory. A collective female memory that still echoes today in the leaves of the trees, the rustle of the wind and the silence of the earth. As I stood there in the sunlight, I felt: this place is not past – but present. It lives on in us.
